Stress Harms Your Health
Posted by | Posted in Dental Health | Posted on 31-01-2010

When stress attacks us, the results often show up in our mouth first. Often stress can increase your likelihood of developing gingivitis which can then easily progress into true gum disease.
The problems of stress is two fold. First the chemicals that your body creates may have an impact on your dental health alone. Couple that with the theory that stress can actually cause you to miss taking care of your dental health and you have compounded the problem.
If this goes on for any length of time, it is quite easy for gingivitis to worsen or to set in. Not to mention that, by the same token, your risk for tooth decay may increase as well. Harmful bacteria secrete their toxins onto both teeth and gums. As a result, both are more at risk for developing a disease condition.
Therefore, this article is a reminder to you to take care of your dental health in times of stress. Do not forget because it is easier to do so when you are stressed. Perhaps you are working late, night after night, attempting to reach a deadline. Perhaps you are worried about some matter relating to your family or friends.
It could be any number of things. One thing you can do to alleviate stress is to practice meditation. Try the peaceful exercises of Falun Dafa. They can help your body to relax. The idea is that your mind may follow suite. Stress is tricky and causes many harmful chemicals to be released. In a short term crises, these chemicals are helpful to meet environmental challenges. But when these chemicals remain in a chronic way – that could be the doorway to trouble.
Protect your dental health! You can make your body happier and perhaps even live healthier if not longer by keeping your natural teeth and keeping the amount of dental work you have done down to a minimum!

What's the difference between health/dental insurance and a health/dental plan?I don't get insurance through work but I saw something online for health and dental plans. They seem a lot cheaper than getting insurance on my own.
Has anyone tried this? Is there a catch I'm not seeing?
Thanks!

I am also someone who thinks about thing more than I talk about them, and I have an anxiety disorder because of it. Let me explain this further to you.
Thinking a lot is very good, because as long as you are thinking, you are living (in more ways than the literal meaning). Thinking about things only becomes stressful when you over-analyze things and blow them out of proportion. You begin to worry about what might happen or what has happened, or basically anything beyond your control. This creates a helpless feeling, and that is what stress is. It is not stress if you just think a lot, but if the things you think about worry you, that is stress.
To help yourself, have hope and pray about your life. Know that God can help you live a better life. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God's Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God's blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can't explain the world's natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner's prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus' name, amen." I'm Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church youth group or Bible study group to learn about God's will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.
That was really not appropriate for her to say to you. As if your health trauma isn't enough she shouldn't be putting it on you that stress is getting to her and affecting her pregnancy. Focus on getting well. It reflects positively on you that you are more concerned for her pregnancy then her poor choice of words. I don't doubt or minimize her stress, but I bet if she were feeling any effects of stress it sounds like she would not be shy to tell. A doctor would be involved too if that were the case and she would be an "at risk" pregnancy and there would be interventions. If that is not the case then don't worry, just help minimize the stress if possible. But many a pregnant woman has lived through stress during pregnancy and had a healthy baby if that helps you to put things into perspective. And she is not that old either to have a baby, I had my last child at 40 and believe me I was under a lot of stress. We were renovating our home so we lived in a trailer and my husband broke his leg around about my 6 month mark. But the result was a healthy boy who was more than just fine, he is perfect.
Edit: Just to add I don't think the morning sickness is down to stress either. My first pregnancy I had morning sickness for the first months and then it stopped, but my last pregnancy I had morning sickness, and all day sickness throughout the entire pregnancy. I think it had to do with how high I was carrying my second baby (the displation of the stomach due to the baby's position). I had to take medication to stop the nausia and it was a safe medication to take, didn't harm the baby. I still experience the feeling of nausia more often now than I did before my last pregnancy too. In my opinion morning sickness is not down to stress and can be controlled with safe medication.
QUESTION 1- Anger
Anger is a subset of general aggression, and can be used as a display technique to deter potential enemies from attacking.
QUESTION 2- some people do not have stress
Everyone has stress. Stress is a physiological phenomenon, not (merely) an emotional one. It can be positive by preparing your body for a difficult activity that requires added or sustained strength; however, sustained stress can wear down your body, producing harmful side effects. There are techniques to help manage the negative aspects of stress.
QUESTION 3- Adrenaline is one of the most well-known substances produced by the human body in times of stress. It increases heart rate and blood pressure, allows for greater exertion, and has an effect over perception.
QUESTION 4- keep concerns to yourself.
Eating nutritious foods helps to ensure that you have the raw energy resources needed when your body invokes a physical stress response. Physical activity helps to condition your body to various levels of stress, allowing your body to act more efficiently. Thinking positively helps reduce some of the negative aspects of stress, as well as stress levels over all (negative thinking alone tends to produce stress).
Keeping concerns to yourself, however, actually has the effect of building stress levels because there is no opportunity for healthy "release".
QUESTION 5- going swimming
the act of going swimming is generally not considered a stressor, any more than walking does. It is normal level bodily exercise, even though it can cause some of the effects that stressors cause, excepting the "adrenaline rush". It CAN be a stressor for some people who have fear of water, or who are in poor physical condition, but this would be considered as being a trigger for another condition, which would be the actual stressor.
In addition to causing mental problems, stress can also cause physical problems. It is linked to heart disease and is considered to be one of the primary causes of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. People who are under a great deal of stress often get sick with colds or flu. Stress is said to actually harm our immune system. There are some indications that stress can also be a contributory cause of certain cancers.
Although we cannot always control stressors in our life, we can learn how to effectively deal with stress so that it does not end up causing us either psychological or physical damage. We are all going to have to deal with stress in our lives so it is better to know how to react to stress in a positive way so that we can control our behavior and not allow stress to become a health threat.
Try to relax with Yoga and Meditation
These are Eastern arts just like aromatherapy and, like aromatherapy, have been around for thousands of years. People in the West tend to want to hurry everything along, which can be one reason why we are so much more stressed than people in the East. Yoga involves a series of stretching exercises that are designed to allow you to concentrate on something other than yourself. Meditation is the process of clearing your mind of negative thoughts and concentrating on nothing. Both are equally effective at calming you down if you understand how to use these techniques towards alleviating stress.
Yoga and meditation work pretty much the same way as exercising, cleaning and counting do to relieve stress – they draw your attention away from the stressful situation and to something else. This is the secret to controlling your stress – to focus your attention on something that is either positive or neutral. Once you have learned how to use these different techniques to alleviate stress, you can then work on controlling how you react to stress.
