Low Cost Health Insurance
Posted by | Posted in Health Insurance | Posted on 12-12-2010

Low cost health insurance was not available at the first time coverage was established back in the 1900′s in the attempt to try to provide health care to the American population, till this time not all Americans have medical protection, due to the rise of medical care cost. Employer group insurance is provided to only those full time employees and some part time employees and may find that the cost for insurance for their families are very expensive. There are lower cost policies that are specifically designed for those seeking health insurance to cover a dependent and his family.
Policy is a contract between an insurance company and the patient, it covers the insurer /patient from any loss. The insurance company has an agreement to pay the insurer for any unforeseen illness, accident or death. The types of insurance existing include disability, liability, HMO, PPO, malpractice, property, life and health.
Disability: Is an insurance designed to cover and pay compensation to the insurer in the case of income lost due temporary or permanent illness. Disability benefits are paid to the insurer if he has been unable to work his regular job for a certain number of days, and was employed at the time of illness or injury and had disability coverage. Insurer must have been under the care of a licensed physician during the initial treatment and must continue care in order to receive benefits, the physician is to complete the claim form and insurer must make sure that the claim is submitted within the time limit. The disability claims begins on the date of disability and weekly benefits are based on a period of 12 months divided into quarters.
Liability: Is an insurance that covers losses to a third party caused by the item or object owned by the insurer, private objects such as a vehicle or on premises owned by the insurer. Reimbursements are made to cover medical expenses for the injuries, lost wages and possible payments for pain and suffering. The injured is the patient and his health insurance will pay secondary to the liability insurance for any medical care.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO): Is an In-Network provider providing quality comprehensive health care while maintaining cost. It’s networked with a group of doctors in a center. The insurer will choose a (PCP) which will manage all the health care of the insurer. If the insurer needs to see a specialist the PCP will evaluate and refer the patient/insurer with a referral slip or authorization to see the specialist. The insured/patient is not able to see another provider outside the HMO center, their services will not be cover. The HMO concentrates on preventative health care maintenance by providing preventive services such as Diabetes classes, weight loss, early detection and providing physicals to promote good health and therefore reduces the cost of medical care. The insurer pays on a prepaid basis and only pays a co-payment when visiting his primary care physician.
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): Is a network of doctors that have contracts with insurance companies , employers and hospitals to provide service to patients on a fee for service. Patients are able to use a non-PPO or Out of Network provider, in exchange for higher out of pocket expense. A PPO has a yearly deductible that must be met by the patient before the insurance will pay their percentage usually 80 percent. This is known as 80/20. With every day expending internet it has become very easy to find low cost health insurance online.

Help answer the question about health insurance
What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with? What is the best health insurance and life insurance policies to go with?
I am recently out of the military and need to purchase an individual health ins policy. However, I am not sure which ones are the best. I am a student, do they offer any good student policies? Also, is the SGLI to VGLI conversion a good change to make? If not, which is better term or whole life insurance policies?

That is very expensive for age 18, do you have pre-existing conditions? In my area the most expensive plan for an 18 yo male is less than $200. Most are less than $100.
You'll want to visit a local independent agent. This person will know the market in your area and can find the best policy for your situation.
WOW some of the people on here are sickening.
You're right- they can't. It's insane. Low income means these people are WORKING, they are contributing to society and yet they are denied medical care. It's madness.
They need to expand medicare to provide cover for low-income people as well as the completely destitute. I know people who have quit their jobs in order to get medical care when pregnant- that's not useful to anybody.
I’m sorry but I am going to have to criticize this video on the grounds of BS. I grew up in BC Canada, and there is no way, NO way that someone who lived in Vancouver (population 578000) would go to the town Red Deer Alberta (population less than 100000) for treatment with a specialist. If she needed a specialist they would BE in VANCOUVER. This is absolute bullcrap and I am furious that someone is trying to pass this off as authentic.
@Aprilmax010 Why do Americans come to Canada for care?? It happens both ways. And evidence shows that very little go to the U.S. for care from Canada. Google the study Phantoms in the Snow, which exactly looked at that topic. They concluded that very few Canadians go south for care, describing it as a tip without an iceburg.
@NoNameC68 Yes, a *TRUE* conservative is for smaller gov’t. Problem is, as of this moment, there is NOBODY on the right who is actually for smaller gov’t and less spending–not a single member of Congress, and not even a presidential hopeful–nobody.
I agree they need competition–why do you think the private ins. industry has run amok with their fees every year and health care costs skyrocketing more than double what it was even 10 yrs ago? It’s got so bad, it’s literally “over-flowing” now.
It's NOT going to be low cost at his age. it's GOING to cost $400 or $500 a month, IF he's in good shape. If he's got "issues", he's not going to be insurable.
Getting recommendations over the 'net is pretty much useless. You'll get lots of spam from health discount plans, which likely have no providers in your area. You'll get a few referrals from companies that don't write insurance in your state.
Your best bet is for your dad to go to the guy that writes his business insurance, and have him quote out a few carriers in the area. That agent will know who's competitively priced, who will write a new policy on someone your dad's age, and, most importantly, who has LOTS of local providers.
Trust me, you do NOT want to have to drive 300 miles to find an "in network" hospital.
@NoNameC68 I agree we need a military–I have no problem with that. Where I have the problem ( and millions of other folks do as well ) is when we use our military to invade a country that had NOTHING to do with attacking us.
We don’t invade another nation just to start a war. That is immoral and unjust, and a HUGE waste of taxpayer money.
Like other people are saying, you can get Medicaid. I had it and they paid for everything, even my c-section. It's really nice to have when your broke, lol. Good Luck and Take Care.

@portlanddem You might be right, but the people who voted for Bush because they were conservative were people who wanted smaller government. As I have said before, nobody really predicted how poorly Bush was going to do.
As for health care, I am against single payer system because it can be abused far too easily, there will be no competition to keep the system in check. Competition runs prices down, not up. Without competition, prices can be adjusted to anything.
@portlanddem Sorry if this is a few months old (written May of 2010)
“The director of the Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday that the health care reform legislation would cost, over the next ten years, $115 billion more than previously thought, bringing the total cost to more than $1 trillion. ”
I've been doing research on this since I will be start a new business in a few months and want to be covered with health insurance. I was able to compare a lot of plans and see different prices using http://healthquoteneeded.excellentabc.com . I'm still deciding on which plan to go with but this should help you a bit.
Good luck
It depends on the state you live in for example Virginia offer a program called FAMIS. Post they state you live in and maybe we can help.
@MadHabber93 If what you say is true then why do Canadians come to the USA for healthcare? It sounds like our government is putting some people on waiting lists. Even some famous people are coming to the USA for health care. Some people must be having some problems with the Canadian health care.

It's the best way to find an affordable health insurance with a reliable company. It's free and fast
@NoNameC68 Lastly, no, Bush was voted in because Gore was not “down-to-Earth” in his conversations with folks. Gore didn’t pass himself off as the “type you can sit down and have a beer with” like Bush did himself. Not saying Gore would have done a splendid job, but yes, from the such poor choice Bush was, we can only go by Bush’s record in office from 2001-2009 and not anyone else.

@NoNameC68 It won’t even matter either way because I don’t think it would pass regardless. Well when it doesn’t pass, guess who is going to pay for my health care and the over 50 million other Americans who are without it?—that’s right, you. I have never used the ER to see a doc, but things are gonna change when this doesn’t pass.
Then when you get older, and get sick quicker and have your employer drop your health insurance, you would have wished differently back in 2010.
