Help answer the question about dental insurance

Can I still get on a medical and dental insurance plan?
I need to sign up with a good medical and dental insurance since my job does not offer any benefits. I was wondering if i can just sign onto a medical and dental insurance on an independent basis. If so, please recommend a good medical and a good dental carrier. I live in Arizona if that makes a difference. Thx in advance. PS> I wonder if there is a plan that offers both medical and dental all in one out there some where.

  1. You might see if there is a dental teaching college in your area. They will likely have a clinic and greatly reduced prices.

Sometimes you will find even a community college will be able to offer this if they have a dental hygienst program because in training the hygienists they have them work with dentists with real patients.

In both cases, there will be waiting lists. It's 1:30 a.m. where I am, so I can't call, but I do happen to know that a dental cleaning at our local CC with a clinic is $25 for an adult. A dentist in my area with a new practice charges $95 for the procedure, so you can see savings can be significant.

Not sure where you live, but if you're anywhere close to the border of Mexico, the border towns are filled with dentists and the prices are far less than the US. They are perfectly competent. My parents both had extensive dental work over many years and never had a single problem–and yes, they do speak English.

Finally, shop around. Seriously. Yesterday I had a bad crown job from over a decade ago redone and I am paying $500 for the porcelain crown–both visits and crown included. Crowns normally are around $950 out here. That dentist told me that was the average price and I believe him because my brother who lives near me uses a dentist on his "dental plan" and the crowns there are a grand.

Even if it's a bit much, DO get it taken care of. Clearly cavities can't heal and bad dental health takes a toll on your entire body.

Do also be aware if you're in a place where you just can't get a good rate that the payment plan is WITH THE DENTIST. There's a terrifying BusinessWeek cover story that is primarily about doctors and hospitals, but there is NO reason some dentists wouldn't do the same thing where you end up with a 27% interest "credit card" debt for medical work. 2. The cheaper plans dont pay for much, you end up paying most of it in addition to the cost of the plan, rather pay cash and dont go on a plan, try ameriplan or kaiser

  3. Here is the dental plan I use. They help with braces, cleanings and everything in between.

  4. Maybe this website should be of some use to you: http://www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars over the years. From extractions, xrays, filling…etc. all services are included in this very affordable plan. They even had my very affordable plan active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. good luck and hope this helps.

  5. And they keep telling us we have the best health care in the world?!? Check with your local social services department. They may be able to direct you to locally funded clinics.

  6. Ur mom

  7. Normally, you have to have the braces paid for prior to getting your retainer. My sons total cost was 4995 and we pay 300 a month for 15 months. Then you have the record cost and some other cost prior to getting them on. Usually dental plans only over 1000 max for braces.

  8. I'm an independent agent in AZ and there are several companies, including Blue Cross, that have policies that cover maternity. If they are "affordable" depends on your point of view. The problem you'll find with individual maternity is that the insurance company, if you do the math, is not going to pay out more for your delivery than they receive from you in extra premium. A group policy is different because everyone on the plan, including your toddler, is paying more for your maternity coverage and the employer is probably kicking in quite a bit. Complications of pregnancy are covered even if you don't have maternity.

None of the Arizona companies will accept an unmarried couple.

Many healthy young people get insurance just for catastrophic occurrences because that will keep the premium lower. They will save the premium difference in the bank for those occasional doctor visits and many women will work with their doctor and hospital to prepay the prenatal visits and delivery.
